Over the Summer we were fortunate to have our first overseas intern Brian Ng Yu Hin with us from Hong Kong for 6 weeks. Before Brian’s arrival we were a little apprehensive about what an overseas intern could offer us and vice versa. Within a week our nerves were calmed, it was not only a pleasure having Brian but he really contributed. He was keen to learn and was able to bring his own skills to help us provide the best possible residential management to our clients.
Brian was kind enough to write up his experience of working with us and his experience of property management as whole and I thought we would share his time with us on our news blog. We wish him luck in the future and we would welcome him back anytime.
“My 6-week journey with Hillgate Management
I am honoured to have been part of Hillgate Management during the Summer of 2017. As a property manager intern, I got to experience not only the day-to-day operation of block management but also all the other aspects that go into working in an office environment and as part of a team.
Property management is an entirely new industry to me, I am currently an undergraduate student at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. The first challenge that I had to adapt to was the cultural differences as well as the language. I am grateful that all my colleagues were very supportive and willing to provide assistance at all times when I needed. I am truly impressed by the vibrant and caring atmosphere that they have created in the group. I was able to take up my management work smoothly to deliver the finest service to Hillgate Management’s clients. Compared to the hustle and bustle life in Hong Kong, the work-life balance here in London was clearly important and got the best out of me and the team.
I got hands-on experience on residential block management which included conducting property site visits with my supervisor Ben and Rodney, checking the health & safety compliance and communicating with clients and contractors alike. I had great time experiencing London with work (in and around Kensington and Chelsea), the residential property management sector as well as exploring the City and country on my days off.
I look forward to coming back in the future.”
